Digest #33 — New Year’s Edition!

It's officially 2023. We’ve got so much to look forward to (and a thing or two to share!) But before that - our team wanted to take a look back and each share three favourite projects we discovered from the read.cv community in 2022..

Andy’s awe-inspiring assortment

2022 Calendar by Hannah Lee
“Loved this 2022 calendar by Toronto based illustrator Hannah Lee. With 2023 just starting it's a perfect time to pick up her newest calendar before it sells out: https://hannahlee.ca/shop/2023-calendar!”

imgs by Siddarth Arun
“Really dig the community and platform that Siddarth is building with imgs. Reminds me of a modern Flickr and makes me want to take up photography to build out a profile!”

Philippine Cassette Archive by Chia Amisola
“This is a wonderful glimpse into Pinoy tape culture curated by Chia Amisola. The website focuses on the graphic design, packaging, and visuals of the tapes, with links to stream on Spotify and Youtube.”

Mehdi’s magical mix

Serve with coffee. (Might we suggest Mikava Coffee’s Santuario Gesha Reserva?)

Font Explorer Plugin by Csaba Nacu and Bogdan Soare
“As a kid, I loved looking at fonts imagining the different graphic designs that could be created with each one. I love this plugin that lets you experiment with your design, maybe you’ll find a font that fits better!”

Perfume Area by Laurel Schwulst
“Scents have always been a black box for me. Should I smell woody or citrusy? I love this project in that it doesn’t de-mist-ify per se but instead takes you for a fun ride.”

One and Many by Alice Zhang
“Family histories and how diasporas spread has always been fascinating to me. Every time I plant roots in a new place, I think about my own parents and the struggles they faced when they immigrated. In that way, this project really spoke to me, and I loved its visual approach to telling a story of both struggles and solidarity.”

Shen’s spiffy selection

Feel free to pop some (green) grapes in the freezer while you’re at it!

Constraint Systems by Grant Custer
“This has been sitting at the top of my bookmarks bar for months now. And it never fails to entertain and inspire me! Genuinely could spend hours on end playing around here - you could say it brings out the iPad kid in me?”

Cita Press by Juliana Castro Varón
“Such an incredible initiative! Have turned to this in many times of need (when I have a long bus ride, nothing to do, a little data to spare.) Maybe my New Year’s resolution this year will be to read as many of these as I can!”

Naive Weekly by Kristoffer Tjalve
“Like a babbling brook - a quiet respite from all the chaos and an ever-evolving hub of activity that houses all sorts of incredible life found on the Internet. Is one of the reasons why I love email so much!”
